About us

OUR HISTORY

The Door/Kewaunee Business & Education Partnership was created in 1999 whose mission is to build lasting business and education partnerships in Door and Kewaunee Counties that enhance the quality of life through education and local employment opportunities for students. While working very closely with the local school districts and businesses of Door & Kewaunee Counties, the DKBEP is able to build relationships between the two entities.

By addressing the needs of our businesses to secure qualified employees to fill labor needs that result from business expansion and pending retirement of their current workforce, the DKBEP is providing opportunities to grow the local economy. In addition, by implementing these career awareness programs, the DKBEP is preparing our area youth with the skills and confidence to enter into careers in regional businesses and industry sectors.

DKBEP programs will offer an unprecedented opportunity to teach our youth about the exciting job and career opportunities in the region. They will be supported by over 60 businesses that will make their employees and facilities available to teach the youth about available careers. Such a strong commitment by the business community is very rare and special in this region. Unless we proactively and aggressively share information about available careers it is only natural that our youth will assume they must leave the region for opportunities in larger communities. We enjoy an excellent quality of life in this region and combined with our abundant career opportunities, we can present a very compelling case to our youth to remain or return in the region and join our workforce.

Youth Coop

Youth Co-op Program

Co-op (cooperative education) consists of two components during the junior & senior years: In-school instruction and on-the-job training. Students will receive credit for both classroom and work experience.

Co-op is an academic program that enables Co-op students to gain job-related experience prior to graduation. Co-op students:

•Earn academic credit for their work experiences and can be paid by their employers (although not required).

•Maintain their status as full-time students while participating in the program.

8th Grade Career Day

8th Grade Career Day

Career Day is an opportunity to educate area 8th graders about available careers and for businesses to promote their careers and place of business. 8th Day Career Day is held every March at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College--Sturgeon Bay Campus. Both public and private schools from Door and Kewaunee Counties are encouraged to attend as well as many local businesses to share their expertise.

High School Home Constuction Program

The DKBEP High School Home Construction Program launched in 2007 in an effort to grow the local skilled workforce while providing real-world learning experiences for area youth. Each year up to f ifteen high school students representing school districts of Door and Kewaunee counties join forces with the Door County Home Builders Association (DCHBA), Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) and the Door Kewaunee Business & Education Partnership (DKBEP) each year to build a home.

Breaking ground each September, the DKBEP High School Home Construction Project will give Door County students the opportunity to participate in the construction of a new home from the ground up. Students are involved in all aspects of home construction under the direct guidance of an NWTC contracted instructor. The students gain hands-on practical experience in all of the skills and trades that are part of the construction industry.

Upon successful completion of the program, each student earns 16 transcripted credits for advanced placement in the Wood Tech Technical Diploma one-year program and NWTC.
